FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q – Can I use Whisalert if my boat has copper tubing/piping?
A – Yes, but you will need extra wiring and additional clamps.
Q – What does it mean if the whistle isn’t steady, or is more of a chirping sound?
A – You may have inadvertently created a fuel trap somewhere in the line. This relates to proper installation. Please see the diagrams on the “tips” page of our website.
Q – Does the vent diameter matter in the effectiveness of Whisalert? For example, if your boat has a vent pipe larger than the standard 5/8”, will it still work?
A – Yes, Whisalert will still work. The whistle is designed to gauge pump speed and volume of fuel entering the tank. No matter how wide the diameter of the vent line, it will still work effectively. Please refer to step 8 in Operating Instructions.
Q – I installed Whisalert properly according to the directions and when in use, it does not make any sound. Is the product defective?
A – No. Check to make sure you have not inadvertently created a fuel trap somewhere in the line. Check the tightness of the clamps. There may be air escaping from your fuel system somewhere that is preventing Whisalert from working properly.
Q – What tone should I look for in the whistle?
A – Listen for a lower tone to the whistle. Slower pump speed will give you more time in stopping fueling, preventing spills.
Q – I can only fuel my boat at half speed, typically. Will Whisalert still work on my boat?
A – Yes. During installation of Whisalert, check your fuel and vent lines to determine if there are unnecessary angles in the fuel fill line that can be eliminated. This will help speed up your boat’s fueling speed.
Q – Will I be able to fuel faster with Whisalert?
A – No. You will still fuel at the same speed, but the whistle may take a few moments longer to activate.
Q – Can I install Whisalert against my fuel tank?
A – Yes, as long as it is in an upright position.
Q – My boat’s fill line is less than 1 foot long. Will Whisalert still work?
A – Yes. However, you may need to elongate your fill line in order to give the system some leeway to activate the whistle and create more lead time to prevent spills.
